In Support of Self-Determination for the Palestinian People

In Support of Self-Determination for the Palestinian People

The National Black United Front, in unity with all freedom-loving people, declares its full support for self-determination of the Palestinian people. NBUF has a consistent history of supporting the liberation struggles of oppressed people throughout the world in their struggles for liberation and self-determination.  The Palestinian people have waged a gallant struggle for over sixty years in an attempt to reclaim their historic homeland – Palestine.  For decades, Israel has denied Palestinians their fundamental rights of freedom, equality, and self-determination through ethnic cleansing, colonization, racial discrimination, and military occupation.  The Palestinian people deserve the respect and support of all who fight against colonialism, neo-colonialism, imperialism and national oppression.

The National Black United Front condemns in the strongest possible way the carnage caused by the recent invasion of Gaza by the Israeli military forces.  We also condemn the 7-year siege of Gaza and the decades-long occupation of Palestine by the Israeli government.  It is clear to us that the goal of the Israeli government is not self-defense, but an attempt to seize control of all of Palestine and to drive the Palestinian people out of the land that has belonged to them for generations.  As of today, over one thousand Palestinians, mostly civilians – many of them women, children and the elderly – have been mercilessly slaughtered by the Israeli military who have shown no regard for human life.

It is not lost on us that the Israeli government could not carry out its brutal repression of Palestine without the complete support of the United States government.  The United States is the main support of Israel and is totally behind its military operation.  Any attack from Israel would be impossible without decades of military, political, diplomatic, and economic support of Israel from the United States government.  The Obama administration, as have preceding administrations, has given its blanket approval, through its actions, to the Israeli government in its attempts to convert all of Palestine into a racist “Jewish State.”  The members of the U.S. Congress, including the Congressional Black Caucus –a group that has a historical responsibility to stand up for oppressed people – have capitulated to the Israeli lobby and continuously provided Israel with the financial and military support necessary for it to create an apartheid state.

The National Black United Front organizes daily in the Black communities in this country.  We see the effects of the lack of funding for adequate jobs, education, healthcare, housing and other necessities on the daily lives of our people.  Yet we see over $3 billion of American taxpayers’ money flowing to Israel in military aid every year.  The money annually allocated to this criminal regime would certainly be better spent taking care of the needs of poor people in this country.

As stated above, NBUF, throughout its 35 year history, has always given support to the liberation struggles of oppressed people around the world. Our support for Palestinian self-determination is a continuation of that effort. At this time we join with those in the global movement for a campaign of Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) against Israel in their call for:
·      Israel to recognize the inalienable right to self-determination and uphold international law by ending its occupation and colonization of all Arab lands;
·      Dismantling the apartheid wall in the West Bank;
·      Recognizing the fundamental rights of the Arab-Palestinian citizens of present-day Israel to full equality, and;
·      Respecting, protecting and promoting the rights of Palestinian refugees to return to their homes and properties as stipulated by the United Nations.

Long live the struggle for Palestinian self-determination!!

NBUF Launches TV Show - Sankofa Community Affairs with @SalimAdofo

As a result of the large decline of a progressive Black presence in media, the National Black United Front (NBUF) created the Sankofa Community Affairs Show.  Sankofa is a West African word from the culture of Akan, which means to learn from the past, in order to move forward.  Hosted by NBUF National Vice Chairperson of Organizing and Training, Salim Adofo, the show highlights the contributions of progressive grassroots organizers, entertainers and issues challenging the Black community in America.

With so many negative images and misinformation consistently being disseminated across the airwaves about the Black community, it’s important to have an independent voice that can give a fair and objective view.  Additionally, with corporate conglomerates controlling the flow of information, a media presence that can speak to the on the ground issues, is another reason why NBUF created the show.

The first season of the television series will feature Dr.Greg Carr, chair of the Afro-American Studies Department of Howard University, media personality, Dr. Justine Love and Senghor Baye, President-General of the Universal Negro Improvement Association and African Communities League (UNIA-ACL).

Sankofa Community Affairs with Salim Adofo can be seen every Wednesday night on Fairfax Public Access TV, channel 10, at 10pm in Northern, Virginia.  There is an encore airing on Saturdays at 6 am and Sundays at 9:30 am.  The show will begin to air in Washington DC and Arlington VA, in September.  For those that out of the Washington DC Metro area, the show can be watched online at:
